Option 1: Derm Shield

Wear for 4 Days

Keep the derm shield on for the recommended duration to protect your new tattoo.

  • Remove in Shower: Gently remove the shield while in the shower.

  • Clean with Antibacterial Soap: Wash the tattoo area with antibacterial soap after removing the shield.

  • Apply Recommended Lotion: For the next 2 weeks, apply the recommended lotion or cream to moisturize the tattoo and promote healing.

Key Notes:

If the derm shield peels back, exposing the tattoo, or if you experience discomfort or leaks, the membrane is compromised. Remove it immediately and follow the cleaning steps.

Option 2: Plastic Wrap

  • Wear for No Longer Than 2 Hours: Unless specifically advised otherwise, do not keep the plastic wrap on for more than 2 hours.

  • Remove in Shower: Carefully remove the plastic wrap while in the shower.

  • Wash with Antibacterial Soap: Clean the tattoo area thoroughly with antibacterial soap and water.

  • Pat Dry and Wait 15 Minutes: After washing, pat the area dry and wait for 15 minutes before applying lotion.

  • Apply Tattoo Lotion: Use the recommended tattoo lotion or cream 3 times a day to keep the tattoo moisturized.

General Tips:

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep your new tattoo out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and damage.

  • Avoid Large Bodies of Water: Refrain from swimming in pools, lakes, or oceans until your tattoo is fully healed.

  • Keep It Clean: Ensure the tattoo area remains clean to avoid infections.

  • Use Common Sense: Follow basic hygiene practices and avoid activities that might compromise your tattoo's healing process.

  • Contact Your Artist: If you experience any complications or have concerns, contact your tattoo artist for guidance.

  • Listen to Your Artist: Always follow the advice of your tattoo artist, not friends or unverified sources.

By adhering to these aftercare instructions, you can ensure your tattoo heals properly and looks amazing for years to come.
